My primary objective was to develop a system that would be flexible long in to the business life cycle of nu.fm. Bringing obvious technical advantages and freedom from other licensing restrictions. We have the options of GPL and proprietary licensing schemes now.
Any post millenium internet offering, should at a minimum not be copy cat and second bring its own technologies to the table. You decide?
So I find myself with a super cool domain name in one hand and a blank vanilla linux server in the other.
Marrying the two will naturally lead to the exploration of CMS content mangagement systems. They all in their own way achieve essentially the same thing with cominalities, the delivery of disperate information and media. Add a nice flavour of PHP for example and you have a primitive application delivery system.
So I explored the CMS's forums and noticed a re-ocurring question from respective product userbases to which the answer was always no.
Of the type "I currently have a few OS solutions, such as payroll, time management etc. Is it possible to intergrate your cms system with these apps before commiting any serious development time or money to your system?".
This type of situation can be further complicaticated by saying, "in fact one of the best and most beneficial pieces of software we are using was written in perl and has no security. We can use cgi so integration is not a problem, but as it stores sensitive information we can't simply dump it on the web, but we do have people in different countries needing to access it.
Because I could not find a system that satisfied these possible scenarios I had to write my own, hear endeth the motivation, your every experience @nu.fm is determined, controlled and delivered by WADS.
